Packing Level Guidance

08 "A" (RETAIL TRADE) Basic level of packaging, as equipment would be delivered to the trade as a "bare" minimum. This is open to interpretation and can be fairly non-specific. Also subject to the additions of bar-code and identification labels.

10 "C" (EXPORT TRADE) Same as level "A", but with more emphasis on allowing the package to withstand more aspects of mechanical handling etc, and able to be sent via air freight etc.

(THE THREE MAIN USED LEVELS OF MILITARY PACKING ARE "P", "N" & "J")

07 "P" (LEVEL "P") Is the more simplified of the 3 levels of Military packing, usually a Polyethylene outer barrier.

Storage Requirement - For a minimum of 5 years, World Wide in frost free buildings.

Distribution Requirement - In store handling, over pack for issue.

06 "N" (LEVEL "N") Is the mediocre level, ranging from items packed in fibreboard cartons, all the way through to goods in timber cases. The outer container selection is dependent on the item size and weight.

Storage Requirement - For a minimum of 5 years, World Wide, in frost free buildings.

Distribution Requirements - Movement by enclosed transport and handling by mechanical handling equipment.

05 "J" (LEVEL "J") Is the highest level of Military packing, covering all aspects of equipment, from small expensive items through to large heavy repairable products (engines, axles etc). The type of container can very from small fibreboard cartons, that have to be over wrapped to ensure a degree of water resistance (due to the higher climate demands) all the way through to S.T.C's (Special to Contents Containers) that are able to be repaired. Although there is a higher initial cost for these cases, over their respective life span they tend to prove cost effective.

Storage Requirement - For minimum of 2 years World Wide with full weather protection.

Distribution Requirement - Movement and handling by any means within the transportation budget.
